September 30, 2010

It’s new comic day, and you know what that means? It’s review time. Today a trap is laid for Catwoman in Gotham City Sirens #16, A woman must confront a sexual predator and reclaim her own destiny in Valkyrie #1, Wonder Woman enacts an essential part of any Greek Heroic Myth, traveling to the Underworld and returning alive in Wonder Woman #603, and the first gay Archie character appears in Veronica #202.

How do these comics stack up? Well read on to find out.

Chloe To Appear in Action Comics #893

September 25, 2010

In yesterday’s issue of Supergirl I got a surprise; Chloe Sullivan from Smallville will be making her comics debut in Action Comics 893. I really don’t know what they’re going to do with the character since she’s basically just a Superman themed version of Oracle; Check this clip from Smallville to see how much.

The only interesting thing I could think of is if they played up a connection to her cousin Lucy Lane, (who was Supergirl’s Arch-Enemy during the New Krypton stuff). The show didn’t mention much of Lucy, however, and I think she appeared in one episode. It was more Chloe and Lois and forget even talking about Lucy… but that’s Lucy’s lot in life: to be forgotten for years at a time.

Marvel Previews for September 29… Valkyrie Number 1

September 24, 2010

Comic Book Resources has posted previews for the Marvel Comics coming out next week; I’m going to look a little more closely at Valkyrie #1 but here are links to the other previews:

Amazing Spider-Man #644
Atlas #5
Avengers Prime #3
Captain America #610
Captain America: Patriot #2
Casanova #3
Franken-castle #21
Heroic Age: One Month to Live #5
Namor: The First Mutant #2
Secret Warriors #20
X-Men Forever 2 #8
X-Men Legacy #240
X-Men: Curse of the Mutants – X-Men vs. Vampires #1

I may pick up Avengers Prime, have to appretiate the well written dialogue there, “Hela, you witch from Hell,” ah classic, it’s funny because she’s the the ruler of the Norse version of Hell, that makes it oh so witty.

Anyway with that out of the way let’s take a look at the preview for Valkyrie #1.

Supergirl #56 and Fables #98 Reviews

September 23, 2010

Out of the three new comics I picked up today I select two of them to review (the third GI Joe Origins #19 was a silent issue and while it is chock full of awesome and emotional energy It’d be hard to do it justice with mere text).

Marvel December 2010 Solicitations. Valkyries, She-Hulks, Ozma and more!

September 22, 2010

Say what you want about the classic Valkyrie design; sure it's a little sexy, and really silly but at least it stays true to the classical Wagnerian perception of what a Valkyrie is supposed to look like. A Valkyrie could do much worse for herself as we'll see.

Comic Book Resources have posted Marvel Comics’ December 2010 solicitation list.  Head on over there to check out the full list but I’m going to talk about a couple items on it that I’m really looking forward to and a few that are bugging me to hell.

So without further ado here at the comics that I think look great, and those that look like they’re kind of fridgy (yay for making up new adjectives).
